تدور أحداث الفيلم حول التوأمتان منى ونادية التي تصاب بحروق شديدة تترك آثار بوجهها مما يدفعها للعزلة والوحدة في الوقت ذاته تعجب بالدكتور مدحت (أحمد مظهر) في صمت دون أن تبوح بمشاعرها في حين يقع في حبها صلاح، وعلى الجهة الأخرى منى التي يجمعها الحب بعصام ويتفقا على الزواج إلا أن موت والدهما يضطر الأم الفرنسية الجنسية إلى العودة إلى ديارها حيث القدر ينتظر منى التي تتوفى ومن هناك ترسل نادية خطابات تحاول فيها توضيح مشاعرها لمدحت وتفاجأ بقدومه معربا لها عن حبه إلا أنها تخشى أن تواجهه بآثار الحروق فتدعي أنها منى وأن التي ماتت هي نادية ولكنه يعرف الحقيقة ويصر على الزواج منها.
